(PARIS) — French special forces backed by helicopters led a pre-dawn operation Thursday and freed five humanitarian aid workers who had been held captive by a “terrorist group” — killing about 10 of the alleged militants, officials said.
Working off intelligence tips, the French forces intercepted two pickup trucks carrying the hostage-takers and their captors north of the historic city of Timbuktu, one of three major towns in a vast region on the Sahara’s southern rim where the five went missing Feb. 8, said Col. Gilles Jaron, a French military spokesman.

In a joint statement earlier Thursday, the presidents of France and Mali said the five Malian aid workers — including four with the International Committee for the Red Cross —were in good health. Jaron said that two of the aid workers had sustained “light injuries” and would be soon handed over to Malian authorities.

Valery Mbaoh Nana, a spokesman for the Red Cross in Mali, told The Associated Press: “They are with us in Gao,” referring to northern Mali’s largest town. “We don’t know who had held them until now.”

Jaron declined comment about the suspected identity of the hostage-takers, and declined to indicate the source of the intelligence. The presidential statement didn’t identify the “terrorist group” responsible. But remnants of al-Qaida’s north Africa branch — largely purged from northern Mali last year by French forces — remain active in the area.

Remi Libessart, a spokesman for the continuing French operation in Mali, said: “We don’t know exactly which groups they (the hostages) were with. It’s always complicated because these terrorists change groups all the time.”
In the operation, French special forces first fired warning shots and came under return fire, Jaron said.

Second, Most individuals and/or groups seek to avoid responsibility for their own actions rather than take corrective actions. This also applies to so called religious groups that seek to absolve themselves of responsibility for the wrong actions of members, but fail, willingly, to take action against these wrong doers by purging themselves of these wicked ones.

THE REALITY:

If a religion fails to clean house of evil and wicked men when they are discovered, and especially of evil and wicked men/women taking the lead in a congregation, and/or congregations such as Pastors, Ministers, Sheiks, Imams, Bishops, Cardinals, Etc., then the religion is responsible for their wrong doing. Some religions such as Islam have never cleaned house of evil and wicked individuals when they are discovered and that religion has been violent since its beginning, and many of its members lust for violence in such acts as beheading of others, suscide bombers, makers of IEDs, etc. do to the teachings of their groups religious leaders. France plans to host a summit with Nigeria and its neighboring countries in Paris on May 17, French President Francois Hollande said yesterday. The meeting will discuss security and the threat of Boko Haram, he said.
Jonathan said yesterday he was “optimistic” that given the overseas support for the search for the schoolgirls, “success will soon be achieved.”

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, which means “western education is a sin” in the Hausa language, has claimed responsibility for the April 14 abduction of 276 girls from their dormitories in Chibok in the northeast.
His group carried out the school raid on the same day it detonated a car bomb on the outskirts of Abuja that killed at least 75 people, the capital’s worst ever bomb attack. That was followed on May 1 by another bomb nearby, less than a week before Abuja hosted the World Economic Forum on Africa, a global meeting of about 1,000 executives and politicians.

Almighty God (YHWH) backed up Judge Gideon during a very troublesome time in ancient Israel after they had entered the promise land [now the land of Palestine]. An angel visited him at this time when the neighboring Midianites were a real threat to Israel. For that reason, Gideon was threshing wheat, not in the open field, but in a winepress, where he could quickly hide the valuable grain. Surprised that the angel appeared and addressed him as a “mighty warrior,” Gideon questioned whether Jehovah, who had delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, was really going to help them now. Speaking on behalf of the Creator, the angel reassured Gideon that Jehovah truly was backing him.
